    Re: PSLL

What I do not understand is how PSL can rise like a Pheonix from the ashs of the old company and SPS have to fold and go into liquidation. The whole administration process in this country stinks.

If enough contractors / suppliers are disatisfied and are owed money, you can group to gether and lodge a complaint with the department for trade and industry. If sucessfull the directors may be held personally liable for the previous companies depts, and be banned from becoming directors again. You need to group together and get a solicitor involved.

    Re: PSLL

Without the facts, I would rather not comment on PSL themselves. I would like to make a general comment. I do wonder how companies have the cheek to go bust owing people money one day, and then expect their subcontrators and hardware suppliers to be able to wipe the slate clean the following day. When they have no intention of honouring their previous debts, how do they sleep at night?

If you are owed money because of the PSL phoenix then get in touch with Marc Harris at the Event Suppliers and Services Association (ESSA) as they are getting together details of people and companies that are owed money marc.harris@essa.uk.com

    Re: PSLL

The reason SPS went bust was that unlike PSL they could not find a buyer for the company or as in PSL's case, find the funds that would allow them to purchase the stock of PSL and transfer it to the new company PSLL.

Calling all freelancers / contractors who may be owed money by PSL. Please contact Andy Lenthall at the following e-mail address; gm@psa.org.uk Andy is the general manager of the Production Services Association (PSA). Like Marc Harris at ESSA, he is also collating a list of contractors who are owed money.

What I cannot understand is how they can still keep the same web page  going saying they have been in business since 1990 they are not letting their clients know that they have once again gone into administration suprise suprise

    Re: PSLL

It is sad when a company like SPS with a 18 year history and well respected in the industry goes into liquidation. Unlike PSL SPS 3 years ago completed a pre-pack administration and Robin Coles the MD along with his senior staff agreed to honour the debt and pay the suppliers over a period of months which we managed to do.

SPS is no longer trading and low and behold PSL have managed to get away with yet again and left many suppliers including the freelance community with no chance of recovering what is owed .

    Re: PSLL

This may well be a simple cash flow issue caused by the recent lack of lending from the banks, or the huge increase in their interest rates. Many businesses are suffering from this, although it does not really explain, or legitimise their conduct towards their suppliers. On the other hand they are (hopefully) keeping many people employed and maybe this was the lesser of 2 evils.

    Thank you Paul.

and a welcome to you as new editor.

This incident however may have put AV magazine at a crossroads? IE does the magazine to continue down the road of being just a show case to the industry and not frighten the horses? Or does it maybe become a bit of a champion in highlighting the dark side and practices?

No pressure though, I dont think anybody minds where you take it, as obviously in a limited circulation the magazine has to contend with various influences (I notice the PSL story appears to has been removed)

    Re: PSLL

I have just read the statement from PSLL and quite frankly it bought a tear to my eye

Oh how PSL have suffered you have to feel sorry for them  DONT YOU no me neither

they are offering £15 a day extra to repay freelancers I was offered £25 a day extra the Monday after the administrator stepped in and a fellow freelancer was offered £50 per day extra

but that would mean I would have to work 35 days just to get even and they could not assure me of payment within 30 days

now we are told it is £15 a day extra where is the continuety

I would not hold my breath freelancers for 21 days payment that is just not going to happen or it may do for the first 2 payments then the old excuses will rear their head

    re: Charles Adams comment

You make an interesting point, and we have felt caught in the middle of this story somewhat.  The problem for us is a legal one, unless people can prove the statements they are making on here we are on very dangerous legal ground, and as you've seen we have had to remove stories & comments for that very reason.  We realise this issue has stirred up a lot of emotions on all sides, but we are responsible for the content on this website and have to act accordingly.

We have received many off-the-record comments about this story from many sources and the difficulty we have is to decipher what is the truth.  What i will say is the magazine has never had favourites or vendettas against any av companies, and we will always try and sing the praises of this brilliant industry whenever we can.

p.s. thanks for the promotion but i'm just a lowly assistant editor i'm afraid
