  State of the Industry Reply Contact I know we don't want to continuously go on about how bad things are in the world at the moment but i am surprised that AVinteractive seems to ignore a lot of what is going on especially in the AV hire market. I just wonder if it might be worth doing a monthly round up where the industry is on a regular basis. I continue to hear of companies, agencies and events having all kinds of trouble and i also hear that some companies are bucking the trend, unfortunately i hear very little of any of this from the AV website. Surely the number one thing people want to know in this difficult time is how the industry in general is going, are there lots of companies going under? are end clients changing the way they work? what's the agencies/end client perspective on the market. What are these people saying the AV industry need to do to see the tough times through? I have 5-6 industry websites i visit everyday to get the latest news and views and i am afraid to say that AVinteractive is no longer one of them, i visit maybe once a week now and finally i feel the need to ask if other people are feeling the same or am i just expecting far too much?

  Re: State of the Industry Reply Contact Stephen, In answer to your query we are just about to publish an in-depth market survey on the a-v rental and staging market (written by our consulting editor Peter Lloyd - R Robin will be happy to hear) in our next issue (out late July), so keep an eye open for that in print and online. I'm sorry you don't feel our website is worthy of a daily visit, hopefully that will change in time as the site develops and grows ever further than it has in the last 12 months since its relaunch.  However I must say your comment seems to go against the statistics we are seeing as we have broken records for visits and uniques (how web traffic is measured) in the last 4 consecutive months so we feel we are doing something right. I'm not naive enough to think we will please all our of readers all of the time (R Robin is one unhappy soul obviously) but hopefully we get it right more often than not and if you don't think we are covering one sector enough then let us know. The AV website and magazine are there to reflect YOUR industry.

I'm pleased to hear that you are gaining more and more readers as the industry certainly needs an online hub of all things and perhaps as with all communities it will take a while to build the following required to make it a home for all in the industry.

  Re: State of the Industry Reply Contact As a regular visitor to a number of AV, Audio or just Video sites, I have decided to go through the registration process if only to add my two pence worth and ask about some statistics that have been mentioned in both your print edition (Bhavna's leader) "..taking a 56 % UK market share of all pro av online traffic" and now online in your comment Paul. What is the total amount of UK online traffic that you believe you are getting 56% share of? Now that would be an interesting statistic, if only to your potential advertisers! What statistics are you basing this on? Visits, page views and average time spent per visit? Online media should be fairly transparent with regards to these as any half decent website statistics package can measure them. Furthermore I am not sure how reporting your claims benefits your readers in any way, shape or form. Potential advertisers yes, so just who is the site for? Looking through this forum it seems to me that the same few people are commenting. Perhaps the content ( as per Stephens comment) actually needs to focus a little more to generate action from readers/visitors and not just irate ones? Any how just a thought. Content and distribution is king, whatever the delivery method is.

Hmmm, it kind of goes against the statistics that were mentioned then...surely there would be more input/response? Seems the team have gone "on holiday" with regards to my comment Andrew. BTW I think the chap who made his personal feelings regarding the editor should have been taken to task by the team, as I am still seeing the same advertising related editorial content as in previous years, especially if July/August is anything to go by.The future technologies was nice to see in paper although these have all been reported 1-6 months previously in fairness by another non competing international AV related resource.

I'm on a couple of other non-work related forums and they are a goldmine of information. It would be good for someone to come on and say 'how do I extend HDMI and keep the key inplace' etc.  Nobody comes here for that kind of info, I wonder where they go?   Re: State of the Industry Reply Contact I would agree with Andrew that there does need to be a willingness to give advice and offer solutions, this is the value aspect of a forum and that is what will keep people engaged. As can be seen from this thread that willingness is not there and some people would rather hi jack a genuine discussion so that they can raise their own issues with this sites publisher, and try to impress others with mastery of percentages.Let’s get back on topic In the field of Pro AV what are the alternative web sites?A large amount of work has been cancelled for 2009 and we are now looking to 2010 to provide some recovery, with so many companies small and large being closed in this financial melt down, the one's left standing are stronger than before and this has been facilitated by battening down the hatches, what does the future hold for the companies left and how will this affect the relationships with suppliers?
