    Re: PSLL

I have just had a long and interesting talk with Gary Davis of PSLL who was concerned about my comments on this forum   and other web pages

I must say he did come across as genuinely very sorry for the mess caused by the downfall of PSL

This, however,  does not get me or anyone else their money back

It is about time the government stepped in to stop companies folding and getting rid of debts so easily (and Iam not just pinpointing PSL) and to make companies and their directors solely responsible for the way their companies are allowed to run up these debts and to stop hiding behind the LTD banner

At the moment the government makes it far to easy for this to happen and then its a visious circle where the only real losers are the people at the bottom of the food chain  and the lawyers the banks and the administrators all end up with the cream.

Why should freelancers loose out when they are the ones who do most of the work to make the companies they work for look good

I would like to take this opportunity  to thank Mr Davis for his call  it was good to know he is not just hiding from this shambles and does have a conscious

I wish him and his team all the luck in the world with PSLL

OH  and  thanks for the offer of a cup of coffee but as I said  "that dont pay the mortgage"

    and you still owe me

    all the best John

    Re: PSLL

Do AV Interactive have more to lose allowing people to vent on their forum than the possibility of a breach in T&C's and (the extremely unlikely) legal action?

Are the moderators being forced from above to let this story lie, as maybe some of the people in the lime light here have friends in high places (with the organisation!)?

I'm not making accusations, I'm just interested in why so many fairly tame comments (and trust me I think the people who have commented have been pretty well restrained!) have been so heavily edited and the most interesting post on this forum (for as long as I can remember) has been so seriously nipped in the bud! (sorry Paul, but your excuse didn't real feel right in some way)   I would say that the hits on the website since this post landed have been upped considerably, so it's not been a bad thing for AV interactive.

I would like to see an article in one of the forthcoming magazines to be on this subject (in general not specifically this story), as so many times has it happened in the AV trade and so many people does it impact. A story that is shown from both sides, so the people who are losing their money can see why it has come to this and why they have had to take the brunt, as well as the companies in question seeing what impact their decisions have on the lives of people/companies hit.

Yes... its moderated very well...perhaps another forum might be better? The risk of offending people who are niave in their dealings with "companies" who have years of experience in "doing" these things isn't something I'd like to risk...

If someone is niave enough to think they will be paid back in time, then they have not learnt one of lifes little lessons about a fool and his money.

In our industry we dont create the work we do. Our clients want to stage an event and they look around for the cheapest supplier...The cheapest supplier may not be the best...the companies who undercut the competition consistently will eventually have to pay back in one shape or another. High turnover becomes a pre-requisite when your margins are slim, as soon as turnover drops you will face problems.

Perhaps some of the companies who invest in...people...health and safety... things that aren't free are a better bet for the long term. If you believe in creationism then it might be safe to carry on believing "these people will see you right".

Or you believe in survival of the fittest....you are only as good as your last job...in this industry...

    Apologies for the self moderation...

    HI charles

I was trying to be  sarcastic

no I have not been enchanted back into the shallow business practices of PSL or PSLL or whatever they will be calling themselves in a years time.

I have just decided that they are not worth my time Gary Davis does talk the talk and is very clever but once a "debtdumper" always a "debtdumper" and that term came straight from BECTU not me

I have spent so much time sending emails and posting shite on the internet I now have worked out that they owe me another day for my time and to be honest I am not going to get back the money they owe me so its time I let them get on with their shite worthless lives and carry one with mine

life is full of learning experiences and I believe what goes around comes around one day

I shall get what is due to me one way or another it may not be this year or next year but it will be recouperated no one steals from my family and that is of course what they done  you cannot hire a service and not pay without it being theft

Although I have no intension of posting any more stuff on the net I will be in the background watching and waiting and maybe if the time is right I will comment

And as I said in prior posts on the web if all freelancers stopped working for PSLL then they would be forced to repay at least some of them

IF only people would be patient it wouldnt take long for them to realise freelancers are their backbone without us they would collapse

REMEMBER  GUYS they need you more than you need them

By the way I would work for them again but it would have to be cleared funds up front like they do to their clients who hire plasmas for exhibitions also my day rate has gone up to them and that is not just to clear any debt so they probably couldnt afford me now anyhow

Like me old grandad used to say "Dont let the B'***ds get you down "

    All the best

In an industry where we supposed to lead the way, maybe AV Mag should host a webcast inviting Gary and his fellow directors to face their accusers. Maybe Mr Scadding and his daughter along with Mr Lakin and Mr X (PSL's Financial Director) could also take part.

To ensure impartiallity an outside moderator could ensure fair play, and take away the chance that AV Mag could be charged with bias.

    Just a thought

    Hi John,

Its not a plan, just a sarcastic view on the way this magazine operates. Lets face it Gary and past and present directors will keep doing this for as long as their allowed to. I look forward to version 263 of PSLLllllllll.

By the way the have the employees of this company have no self respect

    sarcasum

its a good thing  I live by it

I know one person who works there and  is not happy with the situation they have been put in

If I had have been employed by PSL and been dealing with freelancers I would not be working there now but I have done things like that all my life Principles we must have principles

Others its just  " Im in the boat pull up the rope"  syndrome

Iam suprised  though at the freelancers who continue to work for them and that more have not wrote in to this forum

Whether or not Davis & pals have done anything illegal (and we will have wait until the Adminstrator's report to find out for sure), the fact is that they have proved themselves incapable of keeping a medium-sized AV company solvent.  Anyone thinking of trading with their latest entity should bear than in mind before considering offering any sort of credit or deposit.

I have just recieved an email for AV Interactive saying one of my posts has been removed

However all the posts I have put on this forum are still there

I hope no one else is using my account name as I have no  reason to believe my posts are in any way  breaching any terms and conditions

I would be grateful if AV Interactive  editors could let me know what post on this forum they have deleted

    Re: PSLL

     Here's an an interesting one...

In an announcement still on the PSL website dated 30/07/08, Gary Davis boasts: “Here at PSL, we have made a substantial investment in new kit, adding 30x Mirai 42” HD-compatible LCD screens, and another 12x Samsung 52” models, bringing our total to nearly 200 screens.  We’ve also boosted our computer stock by another 50 units.”

This just a few weeks before PSL mk4 was registered as a new company and less than two months before the board decided to put PSL mk3 into administration!  How unlucky for the creditors that he decided to invest tens of thousand of pounds into rental stock instead of paying them.  And how lucky for his new venture that it could then pick up those same assets from the adminstrators at knock-down (but, of course, fairly valued) rates!

Perhaps AV Interactive, if not the Adminstrators themselves, should investigate.

The really sad thing about this whole saga  is the fact that PSL could have been a world beater at one time, with Mr Davis possibly in wealth up with the Alan Sugars of this world?

You talk to many who have worked for PSL and you get a sense of a one time unrequited love for the success of the company. Over the years it seems much of the talent they had, has just frittered away, with illusion that its available off the self shrink wrapped. Now the spurned lovers work against them and people like Lee Spencer are now highly successful and held in high esteem in their own right. Its a shame its seems now just doomed to a 3 year cycle of patching up holes on a leaky boat?

    Re: PSLL

I have no association with PSLL as nine of us were made redundant by the receiver,Tenon Group, during the one hour when PSL went into receivership and emerged as PSLL.

The previous finance director has told me that the police have made no contact with him.

If people want to continue working for PSLL that is their choice, they still have bills to pay and mouths to feed and that is where their priorities should be.

    Re: PSHELL

I have read all the blogs posted. Here's my bit.

I and my family have lost money to PSL. My credit rating is now no good as I have been unable to pay bills on time. some of my invoices I have been chasing for months. I only received a phone call from one of the PROJECT managers because I sent a sarcastic text to one of their managers after hearing of their demise from another freelancer. I have received no formal letter or apology  of any sort. I also lost money to them the last time they went under and was promised (verbally) I would receive a rise in my day rate, they would pay within 30 days and and I wouldn't  have to constantly phone them for payment. I received a rise in my day rate for as long as it took them to get bored of paying over the odds, as for the rest of the PROMISES.............  As far as I can see from my own experience this company obviously does not care for the freelance technician and is not interested in their future, we are another piece of kit to be used and abused until we wont work any more.  I have not and will not be working for this company in the future. I have also managed to get them listed in Bectu's "ask first" I hope this helps anyone who is thinking of working for them again. RIP PSL......L.

P.s.My 6 year old son says Thanks for the great Christmas.

    All the best, Rob.xxx
